Worlds within Worlds brings together Jasser Membreno, Jian Lee, FADNAT, Jenn Lima, and Ricardo Garcia in a contemporary exploration of the spaces between reality and imagination.

Through fine art, illustration, sculpture, and mixed-media practices, each artist creates a distinct visual language and invites viewers into a world of their own. The exhibition explores artwork that bends and blurs the edges of reality, moving between the familiar and the imagined through fantastical, dark, playful, surreal, and dream-like scenarios.

Together, the works create layered environments shaped by emotion, memory, symbolism, storytelling, and imagination. Each artist offers a different entry point into the unknown, revealing how personal experiences and creative perspectives can transform the way we see the world around us.

Worlds within Worlds invites viewers to step beyond the familiar, expand their perspective, and explore the many realities that can exist within a single space—reminding us that sometimes there is much more to discover beneath the surface.

About the artists:

Jasser Membreno

Jasser Membreno is a Los Angeles-based artist and designer whose practice merges autonomic creative processes with monsters, surrealism, and elements of Latin American and European mythology. Working across painting, drawing, and mixed media, he creates fantastical environments that explore the space between reality and imagination, memory, emotion, and storytelling. After earning a B.A. in Film and Video Animation from CalArts, Membreno developed creative projects within the entertainment industry, experiences that shaped his multidisciplinary practice and led to the establishment of Casa Monstruos, a multimedia art studio focused on developing his artistic voice, visual language, and creative brand. His work has been exhibited at La Luz de Jesus Gallery and LAMAG. He has also led programs with LA County Arts and Culture, LA Commons, and Arts for Healing and Justice Network. Membreno was born, raised, and is based in South Los Angeles.

Jian Lee

Jian Lee is an artist based in Los Angeles. As a teenager, she loved to draw comics and share those with her friends. Her interest eventually expanded to drawing, painting, and animation. She graduated from Ewha Women’s University in Korea with a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design and came to LA to study experimental animation at the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts). Her recent works use augmented reality to incorporate digital art into traditional art, and she has been showing her works in galleries and art festivals. She also works professionally as a character animator and a digital compositor in various films and theatres. Jian Lee currently teaches 4D design and drawing as an assistant professor at Cal Poly Pomona.

FADNAT

In World Within Worlds, Los Angeles artist FADNAT presents a captivating visual universe populated by uncanny characters, anomalous creatures, and unexpected forms. His intuitive painting process begins with freestyle abstract shapes to find imagery to form. From this initial chaos, FADNAT slowly defines the composition, teasing out distinct figures and intricate micro-environments that emerge naturally from the paper or canvas. Rather than imposing a rigid structure upfront, he allows each piece to evolve organically into a self-contained visual realm. A touch of humor also seems to always find its way into this artist's work.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, FADNAT channels his personal journey of long-term sobriety directly into his creative work. Seeing the impulse toward inebriation as a subconscious desire to surrender to chaos, he uses the canvas as a space to harness and direct that energy—creating structured, absurdist unrealities that offer a way to process the unpredictable nature of existence. FADNAT’s paintings & drawings do seek to provide an escape from reality, but also an invitation to embrace the inherent lack of control in some portions of life through humor, open-mindedness, and surreal imagination. Jenn Lima

Jenn Lima draws inspiration from folklore, artesanías mexicanas, and pop culture references. Clay plays both a collaborative and transformative role in her practice. Through traditional hand building methods and kawaii aesthetics, she explores the darker aspects of human nature and connections to supernatural realms.

Ricardo Garica

I birth and maintain my work on the principle that the world is a place of design by man that can corrupt or restore beauty. I am a resident artist born and raised in Los Angeles — I paint the city in which I live and the people who inhabit it as they interact, weave between, and celebrate themselves and each other.

My paintings are visually abstract disfigurements and representational simultaneously — colorful and bold, exploring the beautiful and obscene. In my work, there is a conversation geographically and geometrically united by human anatomy and genealogy that travels through time and image.

I see my work connecting the cultures of academia and the street. Simple and diverse yet intellectual and universal — where all minds exist.
