February 29 - March 8, 2020

Opening: Saturday, February 29th, 6-10 pm

Keystone Gallery is pleased to announce Scream Chimney, the latest exhibition of works by artist Jen Dunlap. For her second solo show in Los Angeles, Dunlap has created a new series of paintings and interactive sculptures that explore how common emotions become manifest in the physical world. One of the centerpieces of the show is a 12’ tall monolithic chamber that invites the audience to release any inner fury and rage. Another group of pieces react when stimulated by a human embrace. Viewers are invited to observe or participate with the sculptures.

The paintings are an investigation into how we perceive and respond to our environment. Dunlap begins on hand-dyed abyssal paper, then paints imagery out of this primal darkness, layering intense color and manipulating shadow and light.

Jen Dunlap: (b. 1981) is an Artist and Production Designer based in LA. Using a lexicon of vibrant color, handmade sculpture, and the human form, Dunlap primarily works through painting and performance to explore human interconnectivity as it relates to inner emotion, psychological mythologies, and environmental relationships. She has received Artist Grants for Residencies at Uno Caña (Mexico City) and the Vermont Studio Center, completed in 2016. Dunlap received her BA from Baylor University in 2004 with courses at RISD and SVA. Her work has been exhibited in New York, Texas, Toronto, and Los Angeles.
