Keystone Art Space is pleased to present “TBD”, a selection of recent paintings by Nate Zoba. The artist's non-objective, non-figurative abstract paintings surface subconscious connections between different locations, states and memories. Denying conscious intent at the onset of the work, he allows his sub and unconscious to manifest the fears, dreams, memories, and the sinews between them from his continual locomotion.  He paints in oil both as a poetic restraint and as a medium to give these manifestations form, coherence, and repose. The artist's present perceptions and observations influence the color, gesture, and composition of his work after its subconscious beginnings.  His paintings’ lines conjoin and depart as their colors emerge, combine, and recede across unstable planes. The thick brush strokes evolve and change through the motion of their application against nuanced and subtle backgrounds. The combination of unconscious existence, the influence of his immediate environment, and the experience of the viewer allow the work to be determined.

Nate Zoba lives and works in Los Angeles. He has a BA in English Literature from the University of Illinois and an MA in Creative Writing from Northwestern University where he received the distinguished thesis award. His work had been published in journals and magazines including Books & Culture, Drunken Boat, MAKE Magazine, and most recently was included in MAKE X: An Anthology. His paintings have been exhibited in Chicago and Los Angeles.
