INTERWOVEN - Marleigh Culver & Sara Marlowe Hall

July 17-27, 2026

Opening Reception Friday, July 17, 6-9pm

Keystone Art Space is pleased to present Interwoven, a two-person exhibition featuring new work by Los Angeles–based artists Marleigh Culver and Sara Marlowe Hall. Bringing together two distinct abstract practices, the exhibition considers the ways parallel artistic trajectories can intersect through material, process, and shared experience.

For several years, Culver and Hall have maintained neighboring studios at Keystone Art Space. While each artist has developed an independent visual language, their practices have evolved in quiet dialogue through daily proximity and an ongoing exchange of ideas. Interwoven reflects this relationship, presenting works that reveal both formal distinctions and unexpected points of convergence.

Working across painting and mixed media, both artists investigate abstraction as a process of accumulation, gesture, and transformation. Through layered surfaces, intuitive compositions, and material experimentation, the exhibition explores themes of connection, memory, and the physical act of making. The title, Interwoven, speaks to both the tactile qualities present throughout the work and the subtle intersections between two practices that have developed alongside one another.

The exhibition includes a selection of recent works by Sara Marlowe Hall following her summer residency at The Amber Houses on the island of Aegina, Greece, alongside paintings produced in her Los Angeles studio. Working across painting, pastel, watercolor, sewing, and embroidery, Hall extends the language of abstraction through layered materials and processes that explore memory, landscape, and connection.

Marleigh Culver presents a new body of abstract paintings that investigate the relationship between color, texture, and gesture. Through an intuitive and layered approach to painting, her work balances structure with spontaneity, inviting sustained attention to surface, rhythm, and spatial depth.

Interwoven considers how artistic dialogue emerges through shared environments, parallel studio practices, and the gradual exchange of ideas over time, revealing subtle connections between two independent bodies of work.
